BRIC namely Russia & Brazil consumption was mainly on steriods of cheap credit.Demand for commodities from BRIC & other emerging economies is a factor for surging prices but also the leveraged players in the commodities market. There might be a nice rally maybe running up to Obama inauguration but thereafter reality will hit home that we cannot go back to the past 1-2year growth rates. After deleveraging, stock prices will reflect a more sane growth rates minus cheap credit steriodsUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10784003176014922383noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18183714.post-35461305319811565762008-12-29T21:01:00.000+08:002008-12-29T21:01:00.000+08:00Are you missing the 1929 depression? I do not think the Obama administration is willing to bit the bullet and take the difficult reform needed to restructure the US economy. The BRIC economy will not be able to take up the slack in such a short period of time.

Having said all that, I hope you are right. It'd be good for all of us if the global economy recovers quickly.

RgdsAvatarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03247832621693405810noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18183714.post-84505318701666180322008-12-27T18:21:00.000+08:002008-12-27T18:21:00.000+08:00Hi Salvatoire,Nice one. I agree with what you say ...Hi Salvatoire,

Nice one. I agree with what you say (provided there is no tradewar - where a few flashes of it had occured, but nothing significant).

I observed during the last 2001 crash that it there will be about 6 months worth of zigzag after the bottom is hit before things move higher. It does seemed that November S&P 750 ahs marked a bottom, so yes, I expect things to move on around April/May next year.

I also expect, as you said, a rally when Obama gets in.easystarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16551595909624078074noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18183714.post-24306659180394074382008-12-27T15:43:00.000+08:002008-12-27T15:43:00.000+08:00Is this going to be the WORST/BESTprediction for y...Is this going to be the WORST/BEST
prediction for year 2009 ????????Gamelionhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06590831967204466136noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18183714.post-73201876315997046362008-12-27T10:15:00.000+08:002008-12-27T10:15:00.000+08:00Hi SD, thanks for your informative blog. This years events were predicted by only a few people (Roubini, Faber, Rogers, Meredith) so I like to stick to them for the future, and all these people all predict much more pain to come.

"A lot will depend on what the central banks and governments do over the next 6 months."

Yes, but are these not the same people who [1] caused all the problems, and [2] completely failed to see all the warning signals ("economy is fine", "banking system is strong", etc).

I can not imagine that people like Bernanke and Paulson are able to solve the huge problems, for the simple reason that they are the problem themselves ......

Happy and healthy 2009!Maverickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06233113437360482502noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18183714.post-53452383036325774192008-12-27T09:49:00.000+08:002008-12-27T09:49:00.000+08:00interesting prognosis :)interesting prognosis :)randomhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09771463342339143769noreply@blogger.com
